A routine security search at Hillsboro High School on Monday led to the discovery of a .22-caliber handgun under the seat of a 16-year-old student's car, police said.
Security personnel allegedly found the unloaded and holstered weapon under the driver's seat of an SUV registered to the female student's father, police said.
According to police, the student said the vehicle is what her father normally drives and that it is his gun. The 10th-grader said she was unaware it was under the seat.
