COLUMBIA, S.C. – Steven Liddle  had four hits and one run scored but Vanderbilt lost 11-3  to South Carolina on Sunday.
The Commodores  (27-20, 10-13) were swept in the weekend series with the Gamecocks  (30-18, 12-12) and were outscored by a total of 33-13. More importantly, Vanderbilt dropped to fourth in the SEC East.
With two weeks remaining, VU is eighth overall in conference play among the 12 SEC teams . Only the top eight make the conference tournament.
Liddle led off the game with a single and scored on Curt Casali’s  one-out single as the Commodores jumped to a 1-0 lead for the third time in as many days. They did not score again until Andrew Giobbi drove in two with a single in the eighth.
In between the Gamecocks hit home runs off three different VU pitchers, starter Caleb Cotham and relievers Sonny Gray and Richie Goodenow, capped by a pinch-hit, three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh by Parker Bangs.
