DELAND, Fla. – Lipscomb allowed three runs in the top of the ninth and was defeated 7-4 by Jacksonville in the championship game of the Atlantic Sun baseball tournament on Sunday.
The Bisons (24-32) took a one-run lead (4-3) when they scored three in the bottom of the sixth. Justin Sanders’ solo home run started the rally. Tennyson Dodd then tied it when he scored on a bases-loaded walk, and Ryan Wilkins came home on a catcher’s interference call.
Jacksonville (36-20) tied it in the top of the seventh, which set up the last-inning showdown. First baseman Alex Martinez broke the tie with a two-run home run and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
Lipscomb, the 2008 tournament champion, had three players named to the all-tournament team – Sanders, pitcher Rex Brothers and outfielder Antoinio Butler.
Belmont outfielder Dylan Craig also earned a spot on the team.
