Christina Wirth did not play much during her first weekend of professional basketball.
Like many of her former rivals in the Southeastern Conference, however, Vanderbilt’s ninth all-time leading scorer was involved in the WNBA’s opening weekend.
According to the SEC, a total of 36 former players representing 10 of the league’s 12 schools, are on WNBA opening-day rosters. The University of Tennessee, with 13, has the most.
Wirth played in two games (both defeats) for the Indiana Fever, which drafted her in the first round (19th overall). She played a total of nine minutes and did not score.
She currently is the only Vanderbilt alum in the league and one of two rookies on the Fever’s 11-player roster.
Indiana’s next contest is 6 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday against Seattle and will be shown live on ESPN2 (Comcast Ch. 29).
