Metro Police Sgt. Mark Chesnut, the officer who was shot multiple times during a traffic stop last month, has been released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center and moved to a rehabilitation center.
Police said the gunman was Mississippi prison escapee Joseph Jackson. Jackson and his alleged accomplice, Cortney Logan, are scheduled to appear in General Sessions court this morning for a preliminary hearing.
An initial hearing July 1 was postponed because defense attorneys said they needed more time.
The pair face charges of attempted murder and unlawful gun possession by a felon.
Chesnut was shot June 25 on traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Bellevue. He has undergone several surgeries to remove bullets from his liver, stomach, intestine and colon, but is expected to make a full recovery.
