Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball team remained unbeaten on its exhibition tour in Australia with a 118-106 victory over the Australian Institute of Sport on Wednesday.
Jermaine Beal had 25 points and was the Commodores’ leading scorer for the second straight day. Jeffery Taylor added 20 and Brad Tinsley made six 3-pointers and finished with 18.
A.J. Ogilvy, playing against his former team, finished with 13. Ogilvy is a member of the AIS Hall of Fame.
No rebounding stats were kept, but coach Kevin Stallings said Festus Ezeli had an “impressive” rebounding effort in addition to 17 points.
"Unfortunately this afternoon was easily our worst performance of the trip,” Stallings said in a blog on the VU website . “I was not pleased with our defensive intensity. It was a step back from the first two games.
"On the bright side, Festus was outstanding. He played perhaps his best game ever.”
AIS had three players who will play in this United States this season for St. Mary’s, a team Vanderbilt will face on the road Nov. 20.
The Commodores expect tougher competition for their final two games, the first of which is Friday.
