What’s that sucking sound?
Hopefully the people of Nashville will let their elected officials know that they do not want a Convention Center Authority. Mayor Karl Dean is creating the Convention center Authority under the provisions of Public Chapter 474, the Convention Center Authorities Authorization Act of 2009.
This 22-page law greatly increases the size, scope, and power of government and then vests that power in a small group to be known as the Convention Center Authority.
When the size, scope and power of government grows individual liberty shrinks. Creation of a Convention Center Authority will greatly undermine the libertarian values so deeply cherished by the people of Nashville.
All of Nashville should come to the public meeting on Convention Center PR on the Aug. 17 and to the rally planned to oppose the Convention Center Authority on Aug. 18.
In the meantime let us flood Metro Council with phone calls, e-mails and letters opposing the Convention Center Authority. Metro Council should listen closely to the sound of $1 billion being sucked from the local economy for this project.
