Jermaine Beal scored 31 points but Vanderbilt ended its five-game Australian exhibition tour with a 104-99 [1] loss to the Townsville Crocodiles on Sunday.
The senior point guard made eight of 16 field goal attempts, including four of nine 3-pointers, and 11 of 13 free throws. He also had two assists and two rebounds.
Beal’s last points came on a 3-point shot that broke an 84-84 tie with 6:12 remaining. Townsville scored the next five points and never trailed again. Andre Walker tied it 89-89 on a put-back with 4:07 to play, but Townsville scored the next six points and led the rest of the way.
The Commodores led 50-46 at halftime and 78-76 at the start of the fourth 10-minute quarter.
A.J. Ogilvy added 21 points, and Jeffery Taylor scored 19. Brad Tinsley had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Vanderbilt lost its last two games and finished the tour with a 3-2 record.
