For those of us who have been ‘jonesing’ for the next Dancing in the District, Riverstages or Uptown Mix, get ready for LiveOntheGreen, a new, free Thursday night concert series that promises to present musical lineups as diverse as Music City itself.
The series, running for five consecutive weeks through Oct. 8, kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday with performances by Toadies, American Bang, Ten Out of Tenn and the performance art of Modern Gypsies. The premise for LiveOntheGreen, a partnership between the Mayor’s Office and radio station Lightning 100, is that it will highlight local artists as well as national acts with roots in Music City.
Toadies’ Rubberneck blasted out of 1994, scoring the smash single “Possum Kingdom,” which urged listeners to “Make up your mind!” American Bang was recently touted in this newspaper as “one of the city’s sharpest performing ensembles — and one clearly ready for national stardom.”
With the “live” part taken care of, LiveOntheGreen also will tackle “the green,” incorporating a number of environmental conservation practices including recycling, composting, reusable materials, healthy food vendors and organic merchandising. I suppose the battle cry could be rock, roll ‘n’ recycle!
The event is being held outside the Metro Courthouse, 1 Public Square Plaza. For more information, click here.
