Metro Police arrested convicted robber Jarod M. Phillips on Tuesday in connection with the Sept. 8 murder of Tennessee State University Poultry Plant Supervisor Nathaniel Adefope.
Adefope, 60, was found stabbed and beaten to death at his workplace.
Phillips, 23, a TSU temporary farm employee, was developed as a possible suspect after detectives learned he received medical treatment for a laceration to his hand on the day of the murder, police said.
DNA samples, taken from Phillips and tested by the TBI Crime Laboratory, showed Phillips' DNA was on Adefope's body, according to police.
Police did not reveal a possible motive in the murder.
Phillips was convicted in July 2008 of robbing an East Nashville Dollar General Store and received a four-year sentence. Records reflect he was placed on probation.
He is being held in the Metro Jail on $500,000 bond.
