Metro Police have obtained a murder warrant against convicted felon Daniel L. Garrett, 20, in connection with Tuesday afternoon’s shooting death of Harold Eugene Newsome, 25, in a courtyard of the James Cayce public housing development on South Seventh Street.
Witnesses told police Garrett and Newsome got into a verbal altercation and Garrett fired several shots at Newsome at 4:45 p.m. Newsome died on the scene.
Garrett, who is known to frequent the James Cayce public housing development, has previous convictions for felony aggravated burglary and drug possession. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
