The name Joyce Goodner made headlines 14 years ago when her body was found badly beaten and set on fire in and abandoned house in northwest Nashville.
Metro Police cold case detectives said Monday they believe they have found the man responsible for her murder. James Murray Washington has been indicted on a charge of first-degree murder in the case.
Washington, 47, is presently a state prison inmate who is serving a 15-year sentence for a 2006 second-degree murder conviction.
Goodner, who resided on 10th Avenue North at the time of her murder, was found dead by firefighters inside the building at 4520 Highway 12 at 11:50 a.m. on July 5, 1995.
