A wheelchair bound 22-year-old has been named as the primary suspect in a fatal shooting Saturday night in East Nashville, Metro Police said.
Police say David Orlando Avinger allegedly shot Vincent E. Perkins at the intersection of Howard and Oxford avenues.
Perkins was a passenger in a car when he was shot at 7:20 p.m. during an apparent illegal drug transaction, police said. Witnesses identified Avinger, who was also a passenger in the car, as the shooter. The location of the shooting appears to be random.
Perkins, of Herman Street, ran from the car and collapsed nearby. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
Avinger, who is last known to have lived on Marshall Street, is paralyzed and utilizes a wheelchair. He has been arrested for felony cocaine possession and aggravated assault with convictions for misdemeanor drug possession and unlawful weapon possession.
Anyone with information on Avinger’s whereabouts is urged to contact East Precinct Investigations at 862-7525 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
