With unemployment at record highs, local jobseekers looking to enter the retail sector have a new avenue to employment — a Walmart hiring center set up to staff the new Nashville facility.
Walmart, following through on its promise to create thousands of jobs across country, is set to hire 150 workers for the new Dickerson Road facility.
A temporary hiring center at 3918 Dickerson Road began accepting applications this week.
According to store manager Fatorma Siafa, the store will be hiring both full- and part-time associates.
“We are excited to add this Walmart to Nashville and bring good jobs with career opportunities to the area,” he said in a release. Siafa began his Walmart career in 1999 as an intern in Shawnee, Okla.
Siafa said associates are needed to work in all areas of the new store, including supervisory positions. The majority of associates will begin work in February to help prepare the store for its grand opening in March.
Walmart announced in June that the company will create 22,000 jobs across the country in 2009, including store management positions, pharmacists, human resource managers, customer service associates, cashiers and sales associates among others.
The hiring center is open from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday. Interested applicants can apply online at http://walmartstores.com/Careers/7745.aspx .
