The man charged in a December fatal shooting in East Nashville surrendered to authorities Monday night, Metro police said.
David Avinger , 22, is charged with criminal homicide in the death of Vincent Perkins, who was shot to death at the intersection of Howard and Oxford avenues.
Police say Perkins was a passenger in a car when he was shot at 7:20 p.m. during an apparent illegal drug transaction Dec. 12. Witnesses identified Avinger, who was also a passenger in the car, as the shooter.
Perkins, 25, of Herman Street, ran from the car and collapsed nearby. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
The location of the shooting appeared to be random, police said.
Avinger has previous arrests for felony cocaine possession and aggravated assault with convictions for misdemeanor drug possession and unlawful weapon possession, police said.
