Mr. Football winner Nick Pollard of Father Ryan has committed to Tennessee Tech.
“It looked like the best fit for me,’’ said Pollard who was also recruited heavily by UT-Chattanooga and Purdue. “I had a really good visit up there and got along very well with the special teams coach and with (head coach) Watson Brown.
Pollard had an outstanding senior season after which he won the TSSAA Kicker of the Year award for all classifications at the Mr. Football banquet on Nov. 30.
“Last year, their (Tech’s) kicker made something like 2-of-8 field goals, so I felt I could have a chance to come in and be their kicker right away,’’ he said.
Pollard booted 9-of-11 field goals, including two of 50-plus with his long of 53. He also kicked a perfect 30-of-30 extra points, and 39 of his 44 kickoffs went for touchbacks for the Irish who reached the semifinals of the state Div. II playoffs before losing to eventual champ MUS.
