The man discovered dead Tuesday afternoon inside a large tank at a north Nashville chemical company has been identified as Dan Dugan, 49, of Rock Hill, S.C.
Dugan, co-owner of D & D Construction in Rock Hill, was contracted to perform routine maintenance on a heptane tank at Ashland Chemical Company, 2315 Clifton Ave.
Workers said he entered the tank at 8:15 a.m. and was not heard from until his body was discovered at the bottom of the 10-feet-deep tank more than six hours later.
Nashville Fire Department officials worked for several hours to recover his body.
Officials said it is too early to tell whether Dugan died after becoming exposed to noxious fumes or if he suffered some kind of medical incident.
The Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
