James (Bubba) Spears has been named the new head coach at Hillwood High, replacing Mose Phillips, who resigned recently and is the new head coach at Whites Creek, the school has announced.
Spears guided East Literature to a 5-5 record and nearly helped the Eagles get into the Class 3A playoffs in his first year. The school only began varsity play last year.
“I think there is a potential gold mine at Hillwood,’’ Spears said. “There is an awful lot of talent in the west Nashville and Bellevue area, and I think we can do very well, given time.
But the good-byes at East Lit weren't easy.
“At the same time I hate leaving these kids at East Lit, it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,’’ he added. “I think they have a great future."
