Vanderbilt and Cumulus Broadcasting announced Friday that WRQQ-FM 97.1 will become the flagship station for football and basketball broadcasts, beginning with the 2010 football season.
The parties agreed on a three-year deal for the station to carry all football and men’s basketball games, coaches’ call-in shows featuring football coach Bobby Johnson, men’s basketball coach Kevin Stallings and baseball coach Tim Corbin, and a daily VU sports update with play-by-play man Joe Fisher.
“As we looked at what would be Vanderbilt’s best option going forward, we found a terrific new partner with Cumulus Media and 97.1 RQQ,” vice chancellor David Williams said in a statement announcing the deal. “Their management is excited to welcome our programming and brings a very strong commitment to showcase Commodore athletics. Our fans are going to be very pleased that our games will be 97.1 RQQ’s top sports priority.”
At present, WGFX-FM 104.5, a Citadel Broadcasting Company station, serves as the Commodores’ flagship station.
