The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with cornerback Rod Hood on a new contract, according to a league source.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Hood, a mid-season acquisition last year, quickly made an impression by intercepting passes in three consecutive starts for the Titans after being signed five weeks into the 2009 season. He returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.
By returning to the Titans, Hood immediately injects a veteran presence into the open competition at cornerback opposite Cortland Finnegan. He will compete with second-year players Ryan Mouton and Jason McCourty for a starting job. It might also lessen the prospect of the Titans needing to draft a cornerback early in this year’s draft.
Hood has previously played for Arizona, Philadelphia and was released by Chicago and Cleveland before signing with the Titans last year.
Former Titans WR signs with Bengals
Former Tennessee Titans receiver Chris Davis has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to ESPN.com.
Davis was a leading candidate to be the Titans punt returner last season when he suffered a hamstring injury and then was arrested for a DUI while the Titans were in Dallas for a preseason game.
Davis was subsequently released by the Titans after the arrest, but was re-signed on Nov. 3 after Tennessee released cornerback Cary Williams.
However, Davis’ second tenure with the Titans was short-lived as he was released four days later because of an injury to David Stewart that forced the Titans to add offensive lineman Fernando Velasco to the 53-man roster.
Davis was originally a fourth-round pick of the Titans in 2005.
