Detectives from the Metro Police Department’s South Precinct — using their noses — happened upon a marijuana grow house late Wednesday night.
Local television reported that officers, working the area south of the Haywood Lane exit of Interstate 24 on another investigation, smelled marijuana and started knocking on doors to find the source. That’s when police said they discovered an “elaborate marijuana grow operation” inside a house at 4861 Cimarron Way.
Police said the house appeared to have no permanent residents, and black plastic covered the doors and windows. Detectives obtained a search warrant and entered the house to find a grow system supporting 91 marijuana plants along with 116 pounds of processed marijuana. The estimated total street value was more than $200,000.
Police seized items inside the house connected to the grow operation. They are currently looking for a suspect.
