The power is out at numerous downtown businesses and residences after Nashville Electric Service substations failed due to flooding.
There is no electricity from First to Fifth avenues and from Demonbreun to Commerce streets. City officials report there is water in the underground vaults that are part of two NES substations that power parts of downtown.
Four buildings near the state capitol are also without power as a result of a circuit break in Nashville Electric Service’s central substation.
They include the two state office towers at 500 and 700 James Robertson Parkway, the Southern Baptist Convention building at 901 Commerce Street, and the AAA Building downtown.
Power is not expected to return there for a few days. There are 54 NES crews working to restore power now, and roughly 3,500 customers remain in the dark.
