A 54-year-old HIV-positive Woodbine babysitter is facing numerous charges after he allegedly molested two boys — ages 6 and 10 — who were entrusted to his care.
Police say Relda Travis Miller, a friend of the children’s guardian, was asked to care for the two boys during the day while the guardian was at work.
Miller allegedly sexually abused the boys over a period of months at his home on Sunrise Avenue and the children’s apartment in the Twin Oaks complex on Antioch Pike.
The abuse came to light when the 6-year-old disclosed information about the abuse to his elementary school principal, prompting an investigation by police and the Department of Children’s Services.
Miller admitted to certain criminal acts, and acknowledged that he has been HIV positive since 1991, police said.
Miller faces one count of child rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery against children, and one count of criminal exposure to HIV. Additional charges are expected, police said. He is being held on $150,000 bail.
Sex crimes detectives are trying to determine whether any other children have been victimized.
Parents whose children are acquainted with Miller, particularly those in the Woodbine/south Nashville area, are urged to contact the police department’s Sex Crimes Unit at 862-7540.
The Sex Crimes Unit can help arrange for specially trained social workers to interview young people to determine whether they have been victimized.
