Police seized more than 1,000 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms and items used to grow them after a citizen’s tip led them to the grow operation at 744 Vernon Avenue in west Nashville.
According to police, Christopher Barnett, 27, lives at the residence and admitted to growing the mushrooms for resale. Police seized during the consent search 23 jars of live cultured hallucinogenic mushrooms, 91.7 grams of processed hallucinogenic mushrooms, 1,096.3 grams of live hallucinogenic mushrooms, syringes and jars containing spores and mycelia, as well as 2.4 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and materials used to grow illegal mushrooms.
Police charged Barnett with felony drug possession in a drug-free zone, because the house is within 1,000 feet of West Park on Morrow Road. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Barnett is being held on $57,000 bond.
