Metro police say a domestic dispute ended tragically Sunday morning when Xavier Kidd broke into his estranged wife’s south Nashville house and fatally shot her boyfriend then himself. His wife suffered a minor gunshot injury in the escapade.
Xavier Kidd, 38, shot the back door window to gain access to the Lakewalk Drive home. Renee Kidd told police she called 9-1-1 at 5 a.m. when she heard glass shatter.
The husband, armed with a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun, entered a bedroom and shot Jarmille Toran, 29, while two children, ages 8 and 11, were present, police said.
Even though he was wounded, Toran struggled with the gunman and told him to stop shooting for the sake of the children. Renee Kidd, 31, was shot in the hand as she also tried to subdue her estranged husband.
Officers entered the house and attempted to disarm Xavier Kidd but he turned the gun on himself. Xavier Kidd was transported to Vanderbilt University Center where he died from a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Toran died at the scene. He had been shot at least two times, once in the side and once in the upper torso. Renee Kidd was treated for her gunshot wound and released.
According to police, Xavier and Renee Kidd separated earlier this year. On March 21, Xavier Kidd was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly placed a handgun to his estranged wife’s head and threatened to kill her if she left the marriage. He was arrested again in April for violations of an order of protection for texting her and driving by her house. He was free on $31,000 bond at the time of Sunday’s incident.
