A brother and sister struck by a car this morning as they tried to avoid two dogs remain in critical condition at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital on Thursday afternoon.
Nadia Smalley, 10, and Evan Smalley, 8, were walking on West Trinity Lane at 8:15 a.m. to Bordeaux Elementary School — after apparently missing the school bus — when two dogs ran off of a porch and toward the two children.
Frightened, the brother and sister ran into the street where a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Linda Jennings struck them.
Police said Jennings had little time to react, and she hasn’t been charged.
Metro Animal Control cited the dogs’ owner Lottie Berry, 59, of 1012 W. Trinity Lane for letting the Chihuahua and Beagle mix run loose as well as for them not having current rabies vaccinations.
Berry is to appear in Metro Environmental Court on June 30.
