The man police have been searching for [1] since a woman was found fatally stabbed in May in a Cannon Street apartment is finally on his way back to Nashville.
Faye Burns’ body was found May 11 in the J.C. Napier public housing development.
Metro police said the 57-year-old woman once had a relationship with Clark W. Waterford III, 60, an ex-convict and registered sex offender with convictions for rape, attempted rape and aggravated assault.
Police began asking for the public’s help in locating Waterford in the days following the discovery of Burns’ body but were unable to find him.
Following a tip from Nashville law enforcement, police in Kansas City, Mo. arrested Waterford last week.
He was arrested on a probation violation charge from Montgomery County and returned to Clarksville, Tenn. During interviews with detectives, police said Waterford admitted that Burns was stabbed during an argument that turned violent.
Local police are awaiting Waterford’s extradition to Nashville where he will be charged with murder.
Waterford is expected to be booked on the Nashville murder warrant this week.
