Nashville Sounds shortstop Luis Cruz was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team, the league office announced Thursday.
The 30-man All-Star team will play the stars of the International League on July 14 in the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game. The game will be held at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa.
Cruz, 26, was selected as a reserve by the PCL office.
He is batting .292 (78-for-267) with 17 doubles, two triples, six home runs, and 43 RBIs. He is second on the team in RBIs despite the fact that he bats in the bottom-third of the lineup.
He had an 11-game hitting streak during May and capped the month with a grand slam in a game against Iowa n May 31.
Cruz has appeared in a team-high 72 games but also has spent the entire season on the Milwaukee Brewers’ 40-man roster, an indication that he is considered a top prospect.
He has previously been selected to play in the 2006 Southern League All-Star Game, the 2006 MLB All-Star Futures Game, the 2004 California-Carolina League All-Star Game, and the 2001 Gulf Coast League All-Star Game.
The 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game will air on the MLB Network and will be broadcast locally on WGFX-FM 104.5 beginning at 6 p.m.
