Things turned deadly Tuesday morning at a north Nashville home when a 26-year-old walked in on a domestic dispute between his mother and stepfather, Metro police said.
Robert Boyd Martin, 53, died of a gunshot wound he received, allegedly at the hand of his stepson, Brandon Campbell, with whom Martin and his wife, Debra, shared their 3315 Spears Road home.
Debra Martin, 53, told detectives that she was involved in a verbal argument with her husband that became physical. She said she wound up on the floor and was being kicked by her husband when she heard gunshots and saw her son armed with a pistol.
Robert Martin was shot in the torso and died at the scene. Debra Martin phoned 911 at 6:42 a.m. Campbell ran from the residence into the neighborhood.
Police said Martins have a history of domestic violence. They have been investigated in two domestic matters, one in 1999 and the other in 2000. In both situations, Robert Martin was arrested for misdemeanor assault.
At this point in the investigation, police said Campbell is wanted for questioning in regard to the shooting death.
An arrest warrant is also being issued charging him with unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. Campbell has convictions for unlawful weapon possession by a felon, facilitation of aggravated robbery, assault, and misdemeanor theft.
Anyone seeing him or knowing his whereabouts is urged to contact the Emergency Communications Center at 862-8600.
