A mother made the decision to turn her 14-year-old son over to police late Thursday night after learning he was the suspect in the murder of another 14-year-old.
Following three weeks of investigation in the shooting of Vincent Lewis, the Davidson County Juvenile Court issued a criminal homicide arrest warrant for the 14-year-old Thursday night. His mother then turned him in around 11 p.m.
Detectives believe the boy is the gunman who shot and killed Lewis in what may have been a robbery outside a Sixth Avenue North apartment building on July 8.
Lt. Stephen Lewis told reporters, “We started looking for him, but couldn’t find him yet. We contacted his mother, and she was able to track him down. He’s been on the run since [Lewis’ murder].
“He was cooperative with his mother — he’s not been cooperative with us.”
Stephen Lewis said both the victim and the suspect knew each other, and while there were others present during the shooting, he refused to say what their involvement might have been, citing the ongoing investigation.
According to the Office of the District Attorney General’s a detention hearing for Alexander is scheduled for next Tuesday.
