Christ Presbyterian Academy junior Peyton Deming fell off the hot pace he set in the opening round and finished fourth overall at the TSSAA Class A/AA state golf tournament, which ended Wednesday at Willowbrook Course in Manchester.
Deming shot a second-round 80 after his opening day 2-under par 70 Tuesday left him just two shots out of the lead. His final score (150) placed him in a three-way tie for fourth, six shots behind the winner, Grant Daugherty of Alcoa (even par 144).
CPA, the team champion two years ago and runner-up in 2009, did not qualify as a team this year after being defeated by Goodpasture in the region championship.
Goodpasture, which had the lowest score of the eight region winners coming in, wound up in fourth place in the boys’ team competition. The Cougars shot a 648, 34 shots behind champion Christian Academy of Knoxville.
Goodpasture senior Austin Dillard (159) and junior Aaron Burnett (160) finished 19th and 20th, respectively, in the standings.
On the girls’ side, the top Nashville individual finishers were Hume-Fogg’s Hope Arent who placed 18th (178) and Goodpasture’s Rebecca Jernigan who finished 24th (183).
No Nashville teams qualified for the girls’ championship.
