Metro Police Department Sex Crimes Unit detectives Monday served Bloods gang member Rodney Britton, a former employee of the Galaxy Star Drug Awareness and Gang Prevention Center, with a six-count sealed indictment charging him with the rape, statutory rape and sexual battery of a 15-year-old boy.
Police said Britton, 22, is one of 26 Bloods gang members and associates indicted by a federal grand jury in June on racketeering charges. He was in custody in connection with the federal case at the time of his Davidson County Grand Jury sex crimes indictment.
The investigation reveals that Britton became aware of the 15-year-old earlier this year due to his probation for offenses committed in another county. Britton allegedly attempted to have the boy perform his community service work through Galaxy Star. Detectives learned that the teenager spent the night at Britton’s home on a number of occasions. During those visits, Britton is alleged to have used his authority to coerce the boy into performing sex acts during March and April.
The Sex Crimes Unit began its investigation in late April. That effort was independent of, but parallel to, an investigation Metro police’s Gang Unit and the U.S. government were conducting.
Police said the 15-year-old is the only known victim, but detectives have not ruled out the possibility of others. Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact the Sex Crimes Unit at 862-7540.
Davidson County Criminal Court set Britton’s bond on the state charges at $250,000.
