A cousin of the man who shot Metro police Sgt. Mark Chesnut during a 2009 traffic stop is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning on a motion for a new trial.
A Davidson County jury found Cortney Logan guilty of attempted first-degree murder and a felony weapon charge last September. His cousin, Joseph Jackson Jr., pleaded guilty in September of shooting Chestnut as the officer sat in his patrol car while running the car’s license plate number.
Logan, 27, of Louisville helped Jackson, 32, escape from the custody of Mississippi prison guards during an eye doctor appointment. Chesnut later pulled the two men over on Interstate 40 near Bellevue for a seatbelt violation.
During Logan’s trial, jurors watched a portion of video recorded by the dashboard camera in Chesnut’s car.
