Antioch-area Metro Councilman Sam Coleman told The City Paper Tuesday he’s “90 percent sure” he’ll run for one of the council’s five at-large seats.
Coleman, term-limited from his District 32 seat, said he’s leaning toward an at-large run because of the considerable number of people who have encouraged him to do so.
In November, Coleman lost as the Democratic candidate in the District 40 state House race to council colleague, Republican Jim Gotto.
All five at-large council incumbents — Megan Barry, Tim Garrett, Jerry Maynard, Ronnie Steine and Charlie Tygard — are running for re-election. An at-large council incumbent has never lost a re-election bid in Metro history.
Other notable at-large candidates include Councilwoman Vivian Wilhoite, attorney Renard Francois and Joelton resident Ken Jakes.
