The man arrested last week for allegedly beating his girlfriend at a bar could now face a murder charge, following the woman’s death Wednesday.
Anna Cruz, 42, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center Wednesday following a May 3 attack by boyfriend Leonel Ramos, who allegedly hit, kicked and choked her at the Guadalajara Bar on Old Hickory Boulevard in southern Davidson County, according to witnesses reports to police.
Ramos, 32, apparently got mad when Cruz decided to close down the bar at 15118 Old Hickory Blvd., where which she worked, while Ramos was playing pool.
Police said Ramos fled the scene after the attack but was later arrested on Ocala Drive later in the day on May 3 and was charged with attempted murder. That charge was bound over to the grand jury after a preliminary hearing.
The grand jury will now consider a murder indictment against Ramos, who remains jailed in lieu of $500,000 bond.
