A third person suspected in an early June kidnapping and rape of four women from out of town surrendered to Metro police Thursday morning.
Police said Jesse L. Roberts, 23, of Claiborne Street, turned himself in after finding out police wanted him on four counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of aggravated rape.
Police also arrested two 17-year-olds, one on Tuesday and one on July 19. Both juveniles were charged in juvenile court with four counts of aggravated kidnapping, three counts of aggravated rape and one count of unlawful gun possession, according to police.
Detectives believe a fourth man may also have been involved and are working to identify him.
On June 5, according to police, four Lawrence County women — a 29-year-old, a 28-year-old and two 19-year-olds, who are all related — had just left a downtown Nashville club around 2:30 in the morning when the three suspects now in custody met the women as they walked along Second Avenue toward their car.
When the women got into the car, the three suspects allegedly rushed into the car too, police said, refusing to get out but promising to buy the women gas in exchange for a ride home. When they arrived at Roberts’ home, the two juveniles allegedly pulled out guns and ordered the women inside where all four were raped over the course of a few hours.
The women told police a fourth rape suspect showed up while they were at the home. They were eventually allowed to leave and called police around 7 a.m. on June 5.
The Davidson County District Attorney’s Office is expected to request that the two juveniles’ cases be transferred to criminal court. Roberts is being held in jail in lieu of $150,000 bond. The two 17-year-olds are in juvenile detention.
Detectives urge anyone with information about these alleged criminal acts or the fourth suspect to call the police department’s Sex Crimes Unit at 862-7540 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
Those with information can also send an electronic tip to Crime Stoppers by texting the word “CASH” along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES) or online at www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com .
