Information from a citizen led to the arrest Thursday of the alleged shotgun-toting robber and convicted felon police believe is responsible for three East Nashville convenience market hold-up cases during July.
Michael Lamont Johnson, 24, of 2741 Jones Ave., was taken into custody without incident. During questioning by Detective Rex Davenport, police say Johnson admitted to being the gunman in the following three robbery cases:
* Major Discount Liquors at 2913 Dickerson Pike on July 21.
* Community Market at 336 E. Trinity Lane on July 23.
* So So Market at 2821 Dickerson Pike on July 23.
The shotgun believed to have been used in the robberies has been recovered. Johnson, who allegedly blamed the robbery spree on his crack addition, refused to name his accomplice, police said.
Johnson is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, one count of attempted aggravated robbery and misdemeanor theft (for allegedly stealing a case of beer from the Citgo Market at 3056 Dickerson Pike on August 16). He is jailed in lieu of $215,000 bond.
Johnson was convicted of cocaine possession for resale in May 2009 and received an eight-year sentence. He was on probation at the time of his arrest Thursday.
