Metro’s much-anticipated McCabe Park Community Center in Sylvan Park is set to open Saturday, Sept. 10.
The “grand opening” for the new community center, located at Murphy Road and 46th Avenue, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release sent by the mayor’s office.
Mayor Karl Dean will headline the festivities by kicking off a free nine-week training program and schedule in preparation for The Mayor’s 5K Walk/Run on Nov. 13. More information is available at www.facebook/mayorschalleng5k [1].
The new 25,000-square-foot McCabe Park facility, designed by Nashville-based Hastings Architecture Associates LLC and Hawkins Partners Inc., includes a gymnasium, fitness center, indoor walking track, game room and other amenities. It is the city’s first LEED-certified community center.
The new community center does not feature a swimming pool.
