The man brutally attacked at a homeless camp under the Jefferson Street Bridge Wednesday, Sept. 21, afternoon has died, apparently after a brutal attack.
Robert S. Johnson, 46, was struck in the head with a large heavy object, perhaps a rock, as he lay prone, according to the Metro Police Department. Johnson died Sunday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A homeless couple found Johnson bleeding badly from his head at 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday. They walked to a state office building and requested that an ambulance be called.
Central Precinct detectives have been interviewing homeless individuals and service providers as they work to identify the person responsible for Johnson’s murder. Anyone with information about the attack, including persons known to associate with Johnson, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME and become eligible for a cash reward.
Citizens can also send an electronic tip to Crime Stoppers by texting the word “CASH” along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES) or online at www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com [1].
