Danny Diaz Jr., 19, the second suspect sought by Metro police for the alleged robbery of a Vanderbilt student Tuesday afternoon, is in custody.
Diaz surrendered to police just before 3 p.m. Thursday. He's charged with especially aggravated robbery and is in jail in lieu of a $72,500 bond.
Vanderbilt football player Andre Simmons was arrested Tuesday [1] and charged with especially aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery. He was jailed on $100,000 bond.
Experienced criminal defense attorney and former U.S. Attorney Ed Yarbrough confirmed to The City Paper Thursday that he’d been hired to represent Simmons, who has a hearing set for Monday morning. Yarbrough said he anticipates his client would be able to post bond.
Both men are accused of entering another student’s dorm room and robbing him of about $5,000 cash at gunpoint. Police said Wednesday that Diaz allegedly hit the victim in the head with the gun before fleeing on foot.
Police arrested Simmons a short time later and issued a release naming Diaz as another suspect.
