Jeff Fisher’s first coaching staff with St. Louis Rams already has some similarities to those that he had during his 16-plus seasons with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans.
The Rams announced Monday that Gregg Williams will be Fisher’s defensive coordinator. Also, Dave McGinnis will be the assistant head coach, according to a report out of St. Louis.
Both Williams and McGinnis have head coaching experience as well.
Williams left the Titans following the 2000 season to become head coach of the Buffalo Bills. In his final season in Tennessee, the Titans’ defense led the league with fewest yards allowed and fewest passing yards allowed and was third in fewest rushing yards allowed.
“I have worked with and known Gregg for a lot of years and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as a defensive coordinator and value his past experience as a head coach,” Fisher said in a statement released by the team. “He brings an aggressive approach that I’m sure will benefit our defense and he has a wealth of knowledge that will aid our entire team.”
McGinnis came to the Titans in 2004 after having served as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. He worked as linebackers coach and assistant head coach/linebackers under Fisher and spent the 2011 season as senior assistant under Mike Munchak.
The Rams also announced the Brian Schottenheimer will the Fisher’s offensive coordinator.
