Not surprisingly, John Jenkins’ monster week wasn’t overlooked.
Vanderbilt’s junior guard was named the Southeastern Conference’s player of the week on Monday after averaging 27 points in two games last week.
Jenkins capped it off on Sunday with 28 points in a win against Georgia. He was 8-of-11 from the field, knocked down 6-of-8 3-pointers and made all six free-throw attempts.
On Thursday, the Station Camp product was perfect from the field in a win at Ole Miss. He scored 26 points on just five shots, making four 3-pointers. He set career highs with 12 free throws out of 15 attempts.
The 6-foot-4 Jenkins appears to be headed toward his second straight SEC scoring crown. He leads the league with 20.1 points a game. He also sits atop the national leaderboard with 3.9 3-pointers per game.
“He’s as good a shooter as I’ve ever seen and certainly the best I’ve ever coached,” Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings said on Sunday.
Vanderbilt (19-8, 8-4 SEC) have won three of four and host South Carolina at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (SEC Network).
