A former New Visions Youth Development Center security guard surrendered to police last night following an indictment charging him with the sexual battery and statutory rape of a 17-year-old resident at the center.
A Davidson County grand jury indicted Jon Greer, 27, in October 2011 of intentionally engaging in unlawful sexual contact with the 17-year-old girl. He is charged with two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure.
The indictment alleges that Greer “was in a position of trust or had supervisory or disciplinary power over [the victim] by virtue of [his] legal, professional, or occupational status.”
The state’s Department of Children’s Services spokeswoman Molly Sudderth confirmed Greer was terminated in August 2011 after an allegation of inappropriate conduct with a student at the center.
The alleged rape and battery took place between May 27, 2010, and May 27, 2011, according to the indictment.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Greer developed a relationship with the 17-year-old girl and engaged in sex with her at New Visions, which is a correctional institution for juveniles. The department reported that other residents at the center told police about the suspected sexual relationship.
