Vanderbilt completed its 2012 football signing class with the addition of a three-star kicker/punter, the school announced Monday.
Colby Cooke, a Parade All-American out of Goochland (Va.) High, is the 22nd signee for the Commodores.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder earned first-team all-state honors as Goochland went 14-1 and reached the state championship game. He made 17 field goals (in 21 attempts) in 2011, the second-highest single-season total in Virginia prep football history. He also made kicks of 48 and 51 yards in the state title game.
“Colby possesses all the abilities you’d want in a punter/kicker,” high school coach Joe Fowler said. “He has the technique and size to compete right away. Colby kicked off the ground as a senior. That 51-yarder he made in the championship game would have been successful in the college game.”
Cooke will compete with returning kickers Ryan Fowler and Carey Spear and punter Richard Kent.
Vanderbilt begins spring football practices on March 16.
