The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency will begin accepting Housing Choice Voucher applications for the first time in nearly four years.
The application period will open at 7:30 a.m. on Mon., March 26, and will close on Fri., March 30. In anticipation of strong demand for the rent subsidy program, MDHA officials announced in a statement Tuesday that for the first time applications will be accepted online and each applicant’s information will be entered into a computer-generated lottery system to create a waiting list for vouchers.
Applicants can visit www.nashville-mdha.org and click on “Apply for Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers,” starting March 26. Applicants can either enter their information in the online application tool or print a PDF of the application and fill it out manually.
Paper applications must either be turned in to the MDHA Rental Assistance Office at 620 Dew Street, Nashville, TN 37206 or be mailed to the same address postmarked no later than March 31. Faxed or e-mailed applications will not be accepted.
According to the agency, applications will be entered into a computer-generated lottery from which a Housing Choice Voucher waiting list will be created. From that list, applicants will be asked to come to MDHA for an eligibility determination interview before a voucher may be issued.
MDHA expects to issue 300 to 400 vouchers over the next 60 to 90 days, then approximately 100 vouchers per month after that through the end of 2012. A full explanation of the lottery process is available on the MDHA website.
