One Vanderbilt assistant men’s basketball coach isn’t going anywhere — yet.
Another, however, will interview on Monday for a head coach opening in the Ohio Valley Conference.
According to reports, Dan Muller had been considered a candidate for the vacancy at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are expected to announce Clemson assistant Rick Ray as their head coach on Monday.
Muller has spent the last 12 seasons as an assistant for Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings, who also coached Muller at Illinois State. But in the last two weeks the Commodores’ recruiting coordinator has been linked to numerous openings, including at Samford and Miami-Ohio.
First-year Vanderbilt assistant David Cason is one of five finalists to become Eastern Illinois’ next head coach. Cason, also a former player of Stallings’ at Illinois State, spent the previous six years at Tulsa, including the final three as associate head coach.
Cason will be in Charleston, Ill., on Monday for a public interview session. Also interviewing for the job are Nevada assistant Doug Novsek, Xavier assistant Kareem Richardson, Oregon assistant Brian Fish and Moberly (Mo.) Area Community College head coach Jay Spoonhour.
