Mayor Karl Dean is among the Davidson County Democrats slated to welcome first lady Michelle Obama to Nashville at Tuesday’s fundraiser for her husband’s re-election bid.
Dean will be speaking at the event, mayor’s office press secretary Bonna Johnson confirmed to The City Paper.
The first lady is headlining an 10:15 a.m. luncheon fundraiser Tuesday at downtown’s The Pinnacle at Symphony Place to benefit President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign. The minimum contribution to attend the event is $500, with proceeds going to the Obama Victory Fund.
Dean is also one of 91 Tennessee Democratic Party delegates attending the Democratic National Convention this fall in Charlotte, N.C. The state party’s Executive Committee elected its delegates earlier this month. Dean was not one of the state party’s delegates in 2008.
The crop of 2012 Tennessee Democratic delegates also includes three Metro council members: District 3 Councilman Walter Hunt, and at-large representatives Megan Barry and Jerry Maynard.
