A Davidson County jury found Christian Walters, 19, guilty of second-degree murder Tuesday afternoon for the 2009 shooting death of 21-year-old Dontrell McFadden [1] on Nashboro Boulevard.
Walters’ conviction carries a sentence of 15 to 25 years. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 17.
After McFadden and Walters exchanged gang signs and shouts when Walters passed him in a car, the driver turned the car around, and Walters shot McFadden as they passed him again. McFadden was able to run for a short distance before collapsing on a nearby golf course.
Walters said that he thought the shooting would result in a higher gang ranking for him.
