According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation the overall number of reported crimes in the state dropped in 2011 for the third straight year.
Overall, the TBI "Crime in Tennessee" report stated there was 1.7 percent decrease in reported crimes in 2011 when compared to 2010. Crimes against property and persons decreased, while crimes against society increased by three percent. Murders were on the rise in 2011, increasing by more than four percent, according to the report.
The TBI counted 2,000 more DUI charges in 2011 than in 2010, the number rising from 24,154 to 26,340.
The TBI also found that of more than 400,000 arrests, 71 percent of the arrestees were males and 29 percent were female.
The percentage of crimes committed by juveniles decreased to 8.9 percent of the total arrests.
