Metro Nashville Police Department detectives charged Kelly Grimm, 39, with criminal homicide and aggravated assault in connection to an overnight attack on two men at a homeless camp in South Nashville.
James Clinard, 54, was killed and 47-year-old Brian Benson was injured and transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Police allege the three men were drinking beer and eating hotdogs early Tuesday at a homeless camp near Bass and Vine Streets. Benson told investigators Grimm attacked Clinard with a long, blunt object.
According to police, Grimm then turned to Benson and attacked him, too. Benson was able to walk to a nearby convenience store and call police around 2 a.m.
Officers arrested Grimm when they arrived at the scene. He is in jail on $1 million bond. Police has not determined a motive for the attack.
